You've heard that narcissism is rising. Actually, it's not. Research has pooled more than 1,000 studies covering more than 500,000 people from 1982 to 2023. Scores went down in nearly every analysis they ran. Young people score higher than older people in every decade because the trait declines with age.

That's an age effect wearing a generation's clothes. And nearly everybody who repeats the claim has read it the wrong way around.
