Does Grey Rocking Actually Work? The Research Says... | | V6 EP5

Grey rocking removes the primary reinforcer for a dark-trait individual. The research confirms the behavioural logic — and also three important caveats that most guides don't mention. Grey rocking — becoming emotionally unreactive to deprive dark-trait individuals of the engagement they seek — is grounded in operant conditioning: if the behaviour produces no reward, the behaviour should extinguish. The principle is sound. Three caveats apply. One: behaviour typically escalates before it extinguishes (the extinction burst). Expect things to get worse before they improve. Two: sustained emotional suppression creates significant internal physiological stress for the person doing the suppressing — it is not a cost-free strategy. Three: Grey rocking has no meaningful effect on everyday sadism, because for a sadist, the reinforcer is the act of cruelty itself, not your reaction to it. Short-term tactical tool. Not a sustainable primary strategy. šŸ“„ Full research article: https://www.keca.co.uk/articles/the-positive-aspects-of-dark-tetrad-traits | šŸŽ™ļø @psychologyguyofficial #greyrock #darkpsychology #personalitypsychology #workplacepsychology #narcissismrecovery #psychologyguyofficial Do you want to know where you stand on the Dark Personality scale? Gray rocking, becoming emotionally unreactive to deprived actuate individuals of the reactivity they seek. The behavioral logic is grounded in operant conditioning, but the research has three important caveats. One, behavior often escalates before it extinguishes the extinction burst. Two, sustained emotional suppression increases internal physiological stress.

Three, it doesn't work at all for sadism because the reinforcer for a sadist is the act of cruelty itself, not your reaction to it. Short-term tactical tool, not a permanent strategy. See the full breakdown in the link below.
