The friendlier your AI sounds, the more likely it is to be wrong. That's now measured. Oxford researchers took five language models and trained them to be warmer and more empathetic. The exact quality users say they prefer. Error rates rose by 10-30% points. The warm models promoted conspiracy theories and gave incorrect medical advice.
And they were about 40% more likely to agree with the false belief, most of all when the user expressed sadness. So it comforts you with a falsehood at the exact moment you'll believe one. The personality you will like is the one that misleads us. Full episode on the channel.
