Workplace psychology reveals 1 in 14 adults around you scores high across multiple Dark Tetrad traits simultaneously. This is not a rare clinical exception. It is a structural feature of every team, every boardroom, and every organisation — and it changes how you should read the people around you.
Research from Gómez-Leal and colleagues (2024) estimates approximately one in fourteen adults in the general population scores high on Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy, or everyday sadism — or combinations of all four. The Dark Tetrad doesn't look like a horror film. It looks like your most charismatic colleague, your most decisive CEO, your most strategic negotiator.
Three of the four traits have conditional bright sides under specific governance conditions. One — everyday sadism — does not.
