When you get something wrong your brain finds a small alarm a tenth of a second later before you've noticed. Researchers at Southampton measured it with scalp sensors. In people scoring higher for narcissism that alarm was quieter. It stayed quieter even when they were told, after every attempt, that they'd just stumbled.
So saying it again more clearly is not the fix. It may never have been a clarity problem.
